About the department

The Department of Information Systems and Technologies (IST) is one of the basic departments of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in the field of information technologies. The department employs highly qualified scientific and pedagogical staff that combines experience and youth. Among our teachers: 9 Professors, ScD; 2 Associate professors, ScD; 35 Associate professors, PhD; 5 Senior lecturers, PhD; 11 Senior lecturers, 3 Assistants, PhD and 15 Assistants.

Educational program «Integrated Information Systems»

The purpose of the educational program “Integrated Information Systems” at the Department of “Information Systems and Technologies” is to train professionals who deeply understand the general state of modern information systems and technologies capable of developing comprehensive engineering solutions to create components of integrated information systems and carry out relevant professional activities in various fields. activities, national economy and production and is implemented through:
• harmonious and multidimensional education of future highly qualified technical specialists, able to comprehensively and systematically analyze the problems of information systems and technologies and related industries, realizing the nature of surrounding processes and phenomena, to provide and conduct intercultural communication;
• formation of high adaptability of higher education seekers in the conditions of labor market transformation through interaction with employers and other stakeholders.
The program includes the study of theoretical principles and the acquisition of practical skills for the integration of:
• single-level components of information systems;
• organizational and technical set of software, computing and telecommunications facilities and connections between them – the creation of IT infrastructure;
• components of different levels of the system into a single information control system.
Such integration will ensure the development of the enterprise’s IT environment, increase its productivity, efficient business conduct and competitiveness.

Educational program «Information management systems and technologies»

The purpose of the educational program “Information Control Systems and Technologies” at the Department of “Information Systems and Technologies” is a fundamental and comprehensive training of specialists capable of developing comprehensive engineering solutions for creating, implementing and maintaining information control systems and technologies to support management decisions in business. state and regional management, taking into account international standards in the field of information systems and technologies, using innovative approaches, the latest technologies and a powerful mathematical apparatus that ensures competitiveness in the modern labor market for graduates of this educational program.
The program provides educational qualifications for professional activities related to the development of integrated engineering solutions for the creation, implementation and quality support of information management systems of various profiles, including the use of information logistics and information audit, various intelligent systems and modern information technology, and development of information technologies in various fields and types of production and commercial activities, transport systems, state and regional administration, science, education, medicine, social activities, including design and use of fundamental and applied information technologies and development of means of their implementation.

Educational program «Dataware of robotic systems»

The purpose of the educational program “Dataware of robotic systems” at the Department of “Information Systems and Technologies” is to train a specialist who can solve complex problems and practical problems in the field of information systems and technologies and carry out professional activities in the design, implementation, deployment, development and administration of information systems in the field of robotics and information support of robotic systems.
The program includes the study of theoretical principles and the acquisition of practical skills in the development and maintenance of information, software and hardware for robots and robotic systems, built on information-sensor, control and executive modules and integrated into a single control system with artificial intelligence. The orientation of the program determines the inclusion in the curriculum of disciplines that ensure the formation of competencies in various fields of knowledge – from system integration to the development of information processing and control tools that ensure the functioning of robotic systems.

The goal of the educational program corresponds to the strategy of development of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute for 2020-2025 on the formation of the society of the future on the basis of the concept of sustainable development.

The purpose of educational programs is to ensure the development of innovative education using problem-oriented technologies based on the introduction of flexible training programs, development of new training courses in priority areas of science and technology in the field of information systems and technologies.

Graduates work as developers of software and hardware complexes of information and communication systems, various software using modern approaches and technologies (developers), as specialists in the development and maintenance of service-oriented software architectures, design, management and development of IT infrastructure (system and software architects) and software project managers (team leaders), specialists in computerized control systems, data processing and programming, information security, development and use of microcontrollers for various purposes, computer network administrators, project managers, system and business analytics , engineers in data analytics, business consultants for the implementation and reengineering of complex systems, developers and testers of information control, computerized and robotic systems and technologies, administrators of database management systems and knowledge bases, information technology specialists o maintenance and mutual integration of their work processes into each other, debugging engineers, testers of complex electronic, computer and automatic equipment, as well as research engineers.

Types of study: full-time and part-time (state form and contract)

The peculiarity of the training of our graduates is an in-depth study of the most modern high-tech branches of science and technology: information technology; computer, microprocessor technology and electronics; data and telecommunication systems and networks; computerized control systems.

Our students receive a thorough knowledge of the following disciplines:

  • mathematics (higher mathematics, discrete mathematics, probability theory and statistics, basics of artificial intelligence, operations research and mathematical programming, etc.);
  • programming, object-oriented programming, software development technologies, system programming, databases, operating systems, Front-End programming, WEB technologies, .NET technologies, etc.);
  • information process theory (information and coding theory, digital signal and image processing, basics of information process theory, information security and information protection, data transmission systems and networks, analysis, modeling, operation, monitoring and administration of telecommunication networks and systems, etc.);
  • computer and microprocessor technology (architecture of computer systems and networks, distributed and parallel computing systems, design and programming of microprocessor systems, etc.);
  • theories and control systems (theory of automatic control, system analysis of objects and processes of computerization, integrated corporate information and control systems, optimization methods in control and management, etc.);
  • design (information technology infrastructure, Internet of Things, modern technologies for designing computer control systems, standardization and certification; intelligent systems and technologies, design, implementation and operation of databases).

The IST department is equipped with modern equipment

In 14 specialized training laboratories and computer classes of the department each student has the opportunity to work independently at a certain time on modern personal computers connected by a local area network, which allows him to comprehensively study the latest advances in information technology, gives the opportunity to work in Internet, and use Wi-Fi access. The computers of the cathedral network use modern software from both the world’s leading companies and Open-Source: Windows, Linux; DBMS Oracle, MSSQL Server, POstgeSQL; programming languages ​​C, C ++, C #, NET, Java (JavaSE, Java EE, Java ME), Turbo Assembler, Borland Builder, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Python; MicroCAP, Electronics Worckbench, Rational Rose, Matlab, Packet Tracer, Riverbed Modeler, PCAD, OrCAD, LabVIEW, ISaGRAF, MS Office, emulators and design tools for various microprocessors and microcontrollers (PROTEUS, AVR STUDIO, etc.), automation controllers MicroWIN, Step 7, WinCC, ALFA, TraceMode).

The main position of the department is that without scientific work it is impossible to train a quality specialist. In the process of study, students are engaged in research work at the Research Institute of Information Processes, and the Training and Research Center for Information and Communication Technologies Netcracker-NTUU “KPI”, which are created and operate on the basis of the department.

The main scientific and technical directions of the department:

  • IT infrastructure management;
  • ES&IoT – embedded systems and Internet of Things;
  • Development of parallel computing technologies;
  • IT Computational Intelligence and Computational Linguistics;
  • Design of SPD and telecommunication networks;
  • Modern theory of automatic control, digital and optimal systems;
  • Computerized control systems;
  • Development and implementation at real enterprises of methodology and tools for creating information systems;
  • Development and implementation of modern information technologies (including, intelligent, mobile and Internet technologies) for various spheres of human activity;
  • Measurement and control of technological processes;
  • Design of microprocessor systems.

 

Laboratories have been created at the department:

  1. Telecommunication and network technologies, on the basis of which the Local and Regional Academies of Cisco NTUU “KPI” are formed. In 2010, a NATO grant provided a set of state-of-the-art CISCO laboratory equipment for CCNP and CCNS computer network training;
  2. Computerized control systems for technical facilities and processes based on industrial controllers: Siemens, Mitsubishi, Schneider, National Instruments, and other manufacturers.
    Laboratory of tools for analysis, design and implementation of software systems;
  3. Laboratory of OSS-systems design. In 2007, the KPI-NETCRACKER Research and Training Center was opened at the department with the assistance of NetCracker, a world leader in the development of operational support systems for telecommunications operators (OSS);
  4. Laboratory of optimization and administration of converged networks. With the support of PortaOne since 2007, the department has a “Training and Research Laboratory of Converged Network Technologies”, where students learn the theoretical foundations and deepen their knowledge in the transmission of voice messages;
  5. In 2011, KPI-EPAM Research and Training Center was opened at the department with the assistance of ERAM Systems, the largest provider of software development and decision-making services in the CIS, Central and Eastern Europe;
  6. In 2011, the Research and Training Laboratory of Industrial Automation was opened;
  7. Information Technology Laboratory (application integration, automated programming technologies for distributed systems);
  8. Laboratory of communication technologies. Training in Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), IT-Essentials, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Network Security;
  9. Laboratory of Electronics and Microprocessor Technology (study of microcontrollers of the AVR EV8031 family, Texas Instrument EKS-LM3S1968, Analog System Lab Kit Pro, real-time QNX OS);
  10. Laboratory of Infrastructure (IaaS), Platform (Pass) and Software (SaaS) services;
  11. Laboratory of computerized control systems (management of technical facilities and technological processes based on industrial controllers National Instruments, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Mikrol, Holitm, etc. Research of technologies “Smart homes”);
  12. Laboratory of elements and devices of computerized control systems and automation.

In these laboratories, students spend the first half of the day on a schedule, and in the afternoon, if desired, they study relevant modern technologies in the field of telecommunications, computer science, software and administration, deployment and operation of computer networks. Upon graduation, students are given the opportunity to intern in these companies with subsequent employment. Already today the department offers such additional courses and certification programs for everyone:

  1. CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate), CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional), CCNS (Cisco Certified Network Security);
  2. IT Essentials-Specialist in Computer Hardware and Software;
  3. Software developer on NET C#;
  4. Multimedia transmission technologies;
  5. Unix user and Internet Service Provider (ISP) administrator;
  6. Java software developer;
  7. Administrator of networks and distributed information systems;
  8. PLC, SCADA programmer.

Every year, 100% of graduates of the department are employed in high-paying, skilled work.
